Seeds Ministry: Caring for Those in Need

OUR KITALE LEADERSHIP TEAM

Jim (Jimmy) Cooper

Jeremiah 33:3 – Jimmy is a testament to a story prepared by God.

In 2008, Jimmy listened to, believed in, and obeyed God’s call to serve the Makanis and the orphans and widows from the Kipsongo slum in Kitale, Kenya. Jimmy continues to serve in Kitale. Jimmy is a teacher, preacher, encourager, counselor, dad-figure, and friend.

Jimmy spends much of his time simply being alert to the needs of the kids and making himself available to meet their needs. Jimmy has a hunger for helping those who once felt unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and forgotten. While he supports every effort to meet the kid’s survival needs, Jimmy's desire is to make every effort to help them recognize and fulfill their God-given potential.

Always in partnership with Pastor Richard and Hellen, Jimmy has introduced and continues to help facilitate a variety of leadership/discipleship ministries, including the Music/Worship ministry, a discipleship class, the Seeds Children’s Home and High School church services, and a high school bible study. Jimmy also helps coordinate the Hellen’s Heroes Mentorship project. Along with Pastor Richard and Hellen, Jimmy is the head, heart, and hands of the Chicks for Children Foundation and those who provide prayer and financial support.

Pastor Richard and Hellen Makani

James 1:27 – “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”

Pastor Richard Makani and his wife, Hellen, are Kenyan nationals. While planting a church in Kitale, they came across the Kipsongo slum (“The Place of Hopelessness”) and felt compelled to help. In obedience to God’s leading, they sacrificed one meal a week to feed as many of the orphans from the slum that they could manage. From this simple step of faith in 2002, Seeds Ministry was born.

Today, the ministry consists of a variety of mission efforts that house 230 plus children and feed, educate, and provide medical care for 500 plus children. They are excellent stewards of God’s resources. The Makanis have four children – Mercy, Mike, Faith, and Joshua all of whom set godly examples as brothers and sisters to the kids at the Seeds Orphanage.
